Three Character Proflies
Mia Hall is the main character in If I Stay by Gayle Forman. Mia experiences a life changing car accident that makes her reflect of her early life. Mia is a dynamic and round character. At the beginning of the story Mia wanted to be with her family in Heaven. Towards the end she changes her mind and stays in the world. "The only way to survive them is to concentrate on Adam's hand. Grasping Mine" (Forman 233). On the second to last page, Mia realized that she has changed. She finally wants to stay over anything else in her life. Mia takes all of her will just to stay. What she means by "survive them", is that all of her thoughts about her mother, father, and brother will only be rememered if she stays in the world. So that's what she needs to do. She needs to stay.
Adam Wilde is Mia's boyfriend. Ever since he saw Mia, he liked her. Adam took Mia to her first Yo-Yo Mama Concert, a classical band in the story. Adam is a static and flat character. Every part of the story, Adam loved Mia. " "Please, Mia," he implores. "Don't make me write a song." " (Forman 198). Adam is begging Mia to stay with him. What Adam means by "Don't make me write a song" is if Mia passes, she will be gone. Adam will have to write a song about her death.
Kim Schein is Mia's best friend. They both statred off hating eachother when they first met, they are exactly alike. Kim is a dynamic and round character. Even though the story starts at the car accident, when Mia and Kim are already best friends, Mia has flashbacks of her life. She explains how Kim and her never like eachother. Learning they similarities the two of them became best friends. " "Look, I accept Adam becasuse you love him. And I assume he accepts me because you love me." (Forman 116). Kim is telling Mia that she doesn't have to be best friends with Adam. It is basically a "You love him and you love me, that's all that I care about."
